Studio Singing
Vocal Reel (various styles)
1. "The Rose" clip (as sung by Darci in the film "Napoleon Dynamite")
"The Rose" clip (as sung by Darci in the film "Napoleon Dynamite")
Credits
Words and music by Amanda McBroom. Vocals by Darci Monet. Produced by John Swihart.
Notes
The clip of this classic pop song is played with no overlying dialogue (sort of) during the "happy hands club" scene early on in the movie "Napoleon Dynamite" and is pulled directly from the film's DVD. Don't be shocked by the class jock snickering or the abrupt cut off into the next scene!

Trivia: It's also interesting to note that Darci recorded two more ORIGINAL disco-style songs (written by John Swihart) for the film as it went to festival. At the last minute, festival licenses were acquired by the producers and the two other songs Darci recorded were replaced by the songs they originally had hoped to license. Had that not happened, Darci's voice WOULD have been heard singing away during Napoleon's infamous "Vote for Pedro" shimmy at the end of the movie. Oh well...maybe next time!
2. Modern Pop/Rock sample ("Sisters" - original demo for theme to ABC's "Hope and Faith")
Modern Pop/Rock sample ("Sisters" - original demo for theme to ABC's "Hope and Faith")
Credits
Written by John Swihart for Sonic Gravy Productions. Vocals by Darci Monet. *USED BY PERMISSION*
Notes
This was one of the original demos Darci's friend John Swihart (score composer, "Napoleon Dynamite") was commissioned to write for ABC's sitcom, "Hope and Faith". Unfortunately the studio decided to use a newly signed major label artist on the vocals for the final version, but our girl Ms. Monet got a paycheck and a kickin' little rock demo out of it regardless...and life goes on!
3. "Something's Burning" sample - backup vocals for Dolly Parton

I SHOULD GO (piano/vocal ballad, AC feel); as heard on "The Vampire Diaries" and "Days Of Our Lives"; Honor Award recipient in the 2006 Great American Song Contest.
V1)
Here we are
Isn't it familiar
Haven't had someone to talk to
In such a long time
And it's strange
All we have in common
And your company was just the thing I needed tonight
Somehow I feel I should apologize
Cuz I'm just a little shaken
By what's going on inside

CH)
I should go
Before my will gets any weaker
And my eyes begin to linger
Longer than they should
I should go
Before I lose my sense of reason
And this hour holds more meaning
Than it ever could
I should go
I should go
Baby, I should go

V2)
It's so hard
Keeping my composure
And pretend I don't see how
Your body curves beneath your clothes
And your laugh
Is pure and unaffected
It frightens me to know so well the place I shouldn't go
I know I gotta take the noble path
Cuz I don't want you to question
The intentions that I have

(CH)

BR)
I don't mean to leave you with a trivial excuse
And when you call tomorrow, I'll know what to do

(CH)

I SHOULD GO (piano/vocal ballad, AC feel); as heard on "The Vampire Diaries" and "Days Of Our Lives"; Honor Award recipient in the 2006 Great American Song Contest.
Credits
From the CD "One of the Ones" by recording artist Levi Kreis. Words and Music by Levi Kreis and Darci Monet. Produced by Levi Kreis. Vocals and piano by Levi Kreis. c.2005 Surgery Puppy Music (ASCAP)/Songs From The Fortress (BMI).
Notes
This is one of Darci's personal favorites, as it seems to be to all those who hear it...Darci receives more positive responses on this song than any other she has written with Levi so far.
2. JUST THIS GOOD (piano vocal ballad, gospel feel) -- As heard on "The Apprentice".
JUST THIS GOOD (piano vocal ballad, gospel feel) -- As heard on "The Apprentice".
V1)
Baby I can't believe
What's happening to me
As I look at you
Lying naked with me
A realm of emotions
Beyond this embrace
Leaves me with nothing to say

I've been a man
Conditioned to think
That love was no more
Than a hollow routine
But when I feel your body
Moving slowly with mine
It's then that I realize
Baby

CH)
It's just this good
I never thought I could
Feel such love in my soul
You're the reason I know
That it's just good

V2)
You've given me
What my soul seeks to find
A love that reveals
A greater design
I've always wondered
What heaven was like
Strange, that I never saw
Heaven was here all along
Baby

(CH)

BR)
Just this one kiss
I'm a believer
Halleluiah
Baby we are

(CH)

Notes
*AS HEARD ON "THE APPRENTICE NOV. 17, 2005* Levi and Darci joke that this song felt like "birthing a child". Levi had most of the music done except for a bridge and called Darci in to help him finish it up. It took them three full days to work out the lyric and a bridge. They hope you enjoy the results.
3. EVERYTIME I THINK ABOUT YOU - (organic pop/rock)
EVERYTIME I THINK ABOUT YOU - (organic pop/rock)
Credits
Words and music by Darci Monet, Levi Kreis and Peter Zizzo.
4. HARDLY A HERO (piano/vocal ballad, country feel) -- As heard on "The Young and the Restless" and in the film "Kiss The Bride" starring Tori Spelling.
HARDLY A HERO (piano/vocal ballad, country feel) -- As heard on "The Young and the Restless" and in the film "Kiss The Bride" starring Tori Spelling.
V1)
Just an ordinary man
Thrown into a life I did not plan
Suddenly my world has changed
I'm unprepared to make my way
My resolve is growing weak
So unsure of who I'm supposed to be
The one who takes the noble path
Or the one who wants what he can never have

CH)
And I'm hardly the hero
This is the only thing I know to do
To make it through
But I need you to believe
That beneath this bravado
I'd still give anything to have a chance
To get you back
And I'm hardly a hero for that

V2)
Exuberant and terrified
Every time I look into your eyes
But I can't entertain the thought
Cuz we both I'm not the man you thought I was

(CH)

BR)
The ones I love will always be
The ones who pay the price
And so I set aside my dreams
To do the thing that's right
And keep it all inside

CH2)
And I'm hardly the hero
This is the only thing I know to do
To make it through
But I need you to believe
That beneath this bravado
I'd still give anything to have a chance
To love again
And I'm hardly the hero for that
Yeah I'm hardly a hero

Notes
Strangely enough, this song was inspired by a combination of a) the tragedy of September 11th and b) watching the second installment of the Spider-man films. Sometimes the heroes of the world are those who wish they didn't have to be.
5. U FOUND ME (pop/rock up tempo) -- as heard in the film "Kiss The Bride" starring Tori Spelling.
U FOUND ME (pop/rock up tempo) -- as heard in the film "Kiss The Bride" starring Tori Spelling.
Never thought I was one of the lucky ones
I put my heart in places it didn't belong
Well I guess you never find it if you never try
God knows I must have tried about a million times
Just as soon as I shut love out of my life
Finally you found me

CH:
And now I see forever in your eyes
This time can't find a reason for me to hide
Waiting for the love I couldn't find
You found me

Remember when we were wild and didn't give a damn
Breakin' hearts along the way and never lookin back
Too perfect that we never met back then
Growing up makes you hunger for the meaning
Just when I'd gotten so tired of reaching
Finally you found me

(CH)

BR:
I'm not an island anymore
With you I live for so much more
And I'll never ever ever let you go

MAKE BELIEVE (pop/AC mid tempo) -- Honor Award recipient in the 2005 Great American Song Contest.
V1)
You have the truest smile
And your eyes are the deepest ocean
Your body drives me wild
So much that I can't help knowing
You are the kind of girl
That I could give my heart to
And never look over my shoulder

Then again the truth sets in
And I find that I stand here broken
You never speak my name
You may not even know it
Everytime that you pass my way
It seems my soul is dying
Over and over and over
And somewhere inside I realize

CH)
You're the girl that I'll never know
Though I'd give you my heart and soul
But I guess that it's not meant to be
So I'll go on living in make believe

V2)
Wish I could make you see
All the things that you've been missing
Show ya how it feels to be
With a man who needs your kisses
If I had just one chance
Then maybe you would notice
How patiently I have been waiting
To be the reason you smile

(CH)

BR)
If I had just one chance
Then maybe you would notice
I've been here, I've been waiting
Wanna be the reason you smile

Open your eyes to the future love
Open your eyes to the future love

You may not like the road I'm walkin
But that don't mean that I'm right and you're wrong
We're just two in a world of interpretations
So what's the point in me cuttin you off

There's a bigger picture
And the time is now
We need a new system
If we're gonna find a common ground

CH:
Everybody
Come together in a future love
Everybody
Come together in a future love

When I speak my mind I do it with passion
But it's all good if your opinions aren't mine
You will see there ain't no need to feel threatened
Let's talk about it
Let's give it a try

There's a bigger picture
And the time is now
We need a new system
If we're gonna find a common ground

(CH)

BR:
It's all about you it's all about me
All we need's a little unity

9. GOT TO HAVE YOUR LOVE (r&b mid tempo w/jazz feel)
GOT TO HAVE YOUR LOVE (r&b mid tempo w/jazz feel)
V1)
I can feel you coming in the still of night
And I'm lifeless, waiting for control
In you a thousand fantasies are put to flight
A thousand fires burn within my soul
Oh baby can't you hear me calling come to me
And wrap me round your finger just like that
I can't escape this prison that you've made for me
Oh baby you have caught me in the act
And now the taste of your surrender
It's gonna ease my appetite
I'm getting caught up in a feeling
That I can't even try to fight

CH)
Got to have your love
Just can't live without it baby
Got to have your love
Tonight
Got to have your love
Don't make me go without it, baby
Got to have your love,
Tonight

V2)
Now I don't got to tell you what you do me
Because it's obvious you sweep me off my feet
Never tasted anything that's quite so sweet
And when you touch me I can't even breathe
And now I'm waiting for reaction
My chance to do the thing just right
Every little kiss is just a fraction
Of what you're gonna get tonight

GOT TO HAVE YOUR LOVE (r&b mid tempo w/jazz feel)
Credits
Words and music by Chris Mitchell, Darci Monet, Geoff Koch. Produced by Chris Mitchell. Lead Vocals - Chris Mitchell, Background vocals - Chris Mitchell and Darci Monet, Keyboards - Geoff Koch, Guitar - David Haynie. c. 1992 Songs From the Fortress (BMI)/Chris Mitchell/Geoff Koch
Notes
This is a little tune we desperately wanted to pitch to Chaka Kahn and as soon as you hear it, you'll get why. This is an oldie-but-goody from the Chris Mitchell and the Collection days. Dig Chris doing the "George Benson thing" along with David Haynie's guitar on the breakdown!
