"Proud Mary" - Live in Hollywood (UPN), January 2004
Darci has appeared on television as part of a group or house band several times over the course of her career, but this video captures her first televised appearance as a soloist. This performance aired January 31, 2004 on the Fox/UPN syndicated talent competition show Live in Hollywood. Hosted by Kiki Shepard (formerly of Showtime at the Apollo), Darci garnered a standing ovation from the audience and won the evening's competition with her thundering rendition of "Proud Mary". Ms. Shepard stated to her after the show, "Girl, you just sang the HELL out of that song!" The grand prize? A computerized pen. Yes...a computerized pen.
Useless Trivia: Darci was wearing brand new boots that were not yet broken in and performed the entire song with charlie horses in both of her calves and feet! Needless to say, she never wore those boots again. |
