Dark at night, I taste the rain on my lips
In my mind I wish it was your kiss Souls that meet like no one else I've ever known Turned to me and said you'd rather be alone Alone Left me there in the rain Needing you, just needing you I could not erase the look on your face Telling me goodbye This is not the road I thought you led me to But still I taste your lips on mine Eyes of blue that cannot tell me lies Say to me that you will want me tonight But your words tell me to just go away Then I hear, I hear your voice break Break Even in all this rain I can see, yes I can see Every little tear I feel every fear That you try to hide We both know there are no guarantees But still I taste your lips on mine On mine In the rain... When peace, like a river, attendeth my way,
When sorrows like sea billows roll; Whatever my lot, Thou has taught me to say, It is well, it is well, with my soul. It is well, with my soul, It is well, with my soul, It is well, it is well, with my soul. My sin, oh, the bliss of this glorious thought! My sin, not in part but the whole, Is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more, Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul! It is well, with my soul, It is well, with my soul, It is well, it is well, with my soul. And Lord, haste the day when my faith shall be sight, The clouds be rolled back as a scroll; The trump shall resound, and the Lord shall descend, Even so, it is well with my soul. It is well, with my soul, It is well, with my soul, It is well, it is well, with my soul. Lyrics by Horatio G. Spafford, music by Philip P. Bliss Written circa 1873; Public Domain |

Fusion is available NOW both physically and digitally right here, CDBaby.com, iTunes, Amazon, Napster and many other online retailers.
Half the new CD by Darci Monet represents "rock-chick Darci" and the other half, "coffeehouse Darci." "Side A" is full production, full band, gut-busting pop/rock/blues a la Kelly Clarkson, Pink, Train, Heart. "Side B" features heartfelt, stripped down acoustic balladry sure to please fans of Eva Cassidy, Sarah McLachlan, Billy Joel and Amy Grant. And as always, Darci sprinkles a healthy dose of soul over everything.
Fusion is a CD for lovers of beautiful melodies, moving chord progressions, accomplished singing, brutally honest lyrics, a touch of sass and virtually no gimmick.

Written during a period in Darci's life when life-altering changes were taking place: "This song started when Keith's (bass player/co-writer) grandfather passed away and he brought me the guitar riff and wanted to write a song about it. The lyric became a metaphor for the difficult journey I was taking through my life at the time and Keith's grandfather was taking to the afterlife." With the help of Moe Loughran's (www.moerocks.com) gift of melody, the result is "My Own Road" and is the title track of Darci's debut CD. |

As Keith (bass player/cowriter) said, "This is the happiest-sounding song about depression you'll probably ever hear." Deceptively upbeat in its melody and tempo, the lyrics are a glimpse into something darker. Thus the sunshine and the rain. |

Just a little blues-rock tune about having your heart used and abused by the infamous "playah". Darci's guitarist John Zocco does some particularly yummy axe-grinding on this tune. |
Darci Monet's critically acclaimed debut CD entitled My Own Road is described as a cross between Heart, Melissa Etheridge and Aretha Franklin. Recorded in Nashville, TN, this album is a no-frills yet passionate pop/rock listening experience with vibrant melodies, compelling chord progressions and introspective lyrics. The mix of classic rock influence, powerhouse vocals, catchy pop hooks and a-girl-and-her-band production style create a refreshing break from today's cookie-cutter radio fare.

I can feel you coming in the still of night And I'm lifeless, waiting for control In you a thousand fantasies are put to flight A thousand fires burn within my soul Oh baby can't you hear me calling come to me And wrap me round your finger just like that I can't escape this prison that you've made for me Oh baby you have caught me in the act And now the taste of your surrender It's gonna ease my appetite I'm getting caught up in a feeling That I can't even try to fight CH) Got to have your love Just can't live without it baby Got to have your love Tonight Got to have your love Don't make me go without it, baby Got to have your love, Tonight V2) Now I don't got to tell you what you do me Because it's obvious you sweep me off my feet Never tasted anything that's quite so sweet And when you touch me I can't even breathe And now I'm waiting for reaction My chance to do the thing just right Every little kiss is just a fraction Of what you're gonna get tonight (CH) (Guitar solo) CH) c. 1992 Songs From the Fortress (BMI)/C. This is a little tune we desperately wanted to pitch to Chaka Kahn and as soon as you hear it, you'll get why. This is an oldie-but-goody from the Chris Mitchell and the Collection days. Dig Chris doing the "George Benson thing" along with David Haynie's guitar on the breakdown! |

Credits
Words and music by Amanda McBroom. Vocals by Darci Monet. Produced by John Swihart.Notes
The clip of this classic pop song is played with no overlying dialogue (sort of) during the "happy hands club" scene early on in the movie "Napoleon Dynamite" and is pulled directly from the film's DVD. Don't be shocked by the class jock snickering or the abrupt cut off into the next scene!
Trivia: It's also interesting to note that Darci recorded two more ORIGINAL disco-style songs (written by John Swihart) for the film as it went to festival. At the last minute, festival licenses were acquired by the producers and the two other songs Darci recorded were replaced by the songs they originally had hoped to license. Had that not happened, Darci's voice WOULD have been heard singing away during Napoleon's infamous "Vote for Pedro" shimmy at the end of the movie. Oh well...maybe next time! |

This was one of the original demos Darci's friend John Swihart (score composer, "Napoleon Dynamite") was commissioned to write for ABC's sitcom, "Hope and Faith". Unfortunately the studio decided to use a newly signed major label artist on the vocals for the final version, but our girl Ms. Monet got a paycheck and a kickin' little rock demo out of it regardless...and life goes on! |

Credits
Written by the great Curtis Mayfield. Arranged by Darci Monet and Chris Mitchell. Recorded at Massey Auditorium (Belmont University), Nashville, TN. Vocals by Darci Monet and Chris Mitchell. Guitar - David Hainey, Bass - Keith Kenyon, Keys - Geoff Koch, Drums - Chris Brown. Notes
In Darci's words:
"I believe this particular recording is from Chris' senior concert as a music student at Belmont University in Nashville, TN. However, this is the song that always brought the house down for us at Chris Mitchell and the Collection gigs all over town. It's a battle for who can sing higher...and I think Chris wins! Inevitably, every single time, we'd run out of air at the big finish and this performance is no exception! One day I'd love to do a studio version of this arrangement with a big ole gospel choir in the background. Let's have church - praisaluiah!" |

This is another dance track from the soundtrack of the indie documentary "When Boys Fly". As often happens in independent filmmaking, the songs the producers would LIKE to use in their movies are too expensive to license or flat out denied licensing. That's where people like John Swihart, Darci and Matt come in! The producers hire someone to write a knock-off of the song they REALLY want, and then other instrumentalists and singers come in to record it. Voila! Same effect desired in the first place, for way below licensing value. |
